Horticulture Art Contest
Registration Open until September 22, 2025
The purpose of this project is to encourage youth to explore their creativity through use of various media/materials to craft an original piece of artwork that utilizes natural materials in the design.
Enter your best horticulture-themed artwork whether it be digital, watercolor, mixed media, or more! The artwork must be present at the convention to be considered.

I. Who Can Participate
Individuals ages 5-22 may participate in one of four age categories:
a. 5-9-year-olds
b. 10-14-year-olds
c. 15-18-year-olds
d. 19-22-year-olds (along with previous Grand National Award Winners)
Individuals only; no teams. NJHA age is determined as of your age of December 31 of the end of this year.
II. Classes:
a. Paintings: includes oil, acrylics, and watercolor.
b. Drawings: includes pastels, colored pencils, pencils, charcoal, ink, and makers.
c. Mixed Media: includes entries utilizing two or more approved media methods.
d. Digital: includes entries produced by digital means and/or with digital tools.
i. Digital Art (you must bring a physical copy).
ii. Physical Media (including ink, watercolor, acrylic, oil, or mixed media).
III. Rules
a. Artwork must be original work done by the contestant-no AI generated work (generative AI) will be accepted, however, AI-powered editing tools are acceptable, if creativity remains the work of the participant.
b. Contestants may submit no more than 1 entry in each Category.
c. Artwork must be visibly inspired or related to horticulture (75%); focal points must be plants.
d. Allowed art pieces
i. Trees, flowers, grass, or seeds.
ii. Landscapes with plants.
iii. Animals on or around plants.
IV. Additional Information
a. Score sheet is online at www.njha.org; listed under “Contests, Projects, & Activities” menu item “Contest Score Sheet.”
b. Contestants are responsible for having their entry at the convention by Friday, which is the first day of the convention.
c. The entry can be claimed after the convention ends; if not claimed the entry will not be returned.
d. Contestants may donate entries for the NJHA Alumni auction in support of Youth Officers Expenses and programming materials; the project chair must be notified in writing. Donation will not be a factor in judging the entry.
e. Entries may be used for publicity purposes.
