State Display Contest
To promote and increase awareness of state horticultural commodities and other horticultural resources, and to stimulate and foster enthusiasm of state horticultural activities. This award is dedicated to George and Alice Marvin by the Marvin family who were longtime supporters of NJHA and Alumni Association Activities.
Requirements
- Display must include the NJHA theme that is chosen by the NJHA officer team.
- Display will be evaluated on originality, creativity, educational content, and horticultural orientation.
- Displays must be ready by the midnight of the first night of convention and must stay up until the closing banquet of the convention.
- Exhibits must be self-supporting and fit on a maximum of one eight foot table in order to qualify for judging.
- A 3-5 minute presentation by one or more youth members of the state's delegation about horticulture in their state and how it relates to the theme, followed by a 3-5 minute question and answer session with the judging committee. The presentation may be entirely verbal and/or may incorporate items in addition to those on the display tables. Times for each state to make their presentation(s) will be scheduled at the NJHA convention by the judging committee.
- Display must remain neat and clean with samples replenished throughout
the convention.
Awards
The top state display will be awarded a certificate and ribbon. The grand award winner will receive a rotating plaque that must be returned to the convention the following year. The state will be responsible for having the plaque engraved. In the event that no display meets minimum standards, this award will not be presented. The NJHA Alumni Association officer team reserves the right to disqualify entries not meeting the above requirements or spirit of the competition.

Entry Deadline
Pre-registration with the project chair is strongly encouraged to assure adequate tables/space for displays. Displays must be set-up before midnight Friday (opening night of the convention) and disassembled before midnight Monday (closing night of the convention).
