

To stimulate an interest in the use of film photography in horticulture.
8 – 22 years old, individuals only. Age divisions are: 8 – 14 and 15 – 22 years old (as of Dec. 31 of current year). All award winners in any class are eligible to enter in any class the following year. Best of Show winner is also eligible to enter in a class the following year.

Photographs meeting all entry criteria will be judged on individual merit, and will be awarded an Outstanding, Good, or Worthy award. Honorable Mention awards may also be presented. A certificate or plaques will be presented to all judged entries.
Good and Worthy – Certificates for “Good” and “Worthy” work will be presented to entries that do not receive an “Outstanding”.
Outstanding – the top three (3) “Outstanding” scoring photos in each class are eligible to receive a plaque signifying this level of photographic achievement, and will compete for “Best of Class”. Photographs that do not receive a plaque will be awarded certificates. In the event that an image of sufficient quality is not entered in a division, no “Outstanding” award will be presented.
Best of Class – One entry in each of the classes (A – D) is eligible to earn designation as Best of Class. Entry must be of sufficient quality to earn an outstanding award. Best of Class entries may also receive cash awards. Top photos in each class meeting publication criteria may be used in national horticultural publications, such as Journal of the American Society of Horticultural Science, or HortScience. Photos may also be displayed on the NJHA website.
Best of Show – One “Best of Class” entry will be selected as “Best of Show.”
All entries must be received by the Project Chair by September 15. No exceptions will be made. Entries that do not adhere to rules will not be judged.
Entry dates within your state for state competitions may be earlier. Consult with your State Leader for additional information.
