We have had two conventions in Lexington in the past and there are numerous
attractions, including a new arboretum.
The following is a list of possible tours for the 2014 convention:
1. The Arboretum
The walk across Kentucky is a 2 mile paved pathway that will guide you through seven simulated landscapes of Kentucky. It is an extensive collection of Kentucky plant life with interpretive panels along the trail and identification labels on each plant specimen. There is also a rose garden, a home demonstration garden, and a children's garden.
This will be a great experience and a chance to stretch your legs.
2. Horse Farm
Lexington is in the center of thoroughbred country. There are many beautiful horse farms and those sleek thoroughbreds grazing in the pastures. We will visit one and get close to the horses.
Early morning visit, like 6:00 A. M. to watch the horses workout and possibly get to meet some jockeys and trainers. This would be an optional tour with sign up at registration.
4. Kentucky Horse Park
This is a working horse farm and an educational theme park. The equestrian facility is dedicated to man's relationship to the horse. Park has twice daily parades of breeds with riders in authentic costume.
5. Shaker Village
This may be on the schedule. This village is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Canterbury Shakes and their lifestyle. There are many restored original Shaker buildings with acres of fields, gardens, and mill ponds. A unique educational experience.
